The History of Hlaing Campus, Part of the University of Yangon

Hlaing Campus is located slightly north of the Main Campus of the University of Yangon but still within Yangon city, in Block 12, Hlaing Township. It covers an area of 24.68 acres.

Hlaing Campus was originally established in 1977 as a separate college, the No 2 Regional College in Yangon (formerly Rangoon). In 1981 it became the Hlaing Campus of the University of Yangon. From 2000 Hlaing Campus was used solely as a Basic Education School for Teacher Training. December 2017 saw the re-opening of Hlaing Campus as a part of the University of Yangon.

Nowadays it is a campus where some first year students live and study. In the academic year 2017-18, 1,588 first year students of 26 different subjects, studied and lived on the Hlaing Campus.
