Professor Dr. Nilar Kyu is the Pro-Rector and Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Officer at the University of Yangon, Myanmar. She obtained her BA (Honours) and MA in Psychology from Mandalay University, where she began her academic career as a lecturer in 1995. In 2000, she was awarded the prestigious Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship to pursue doctoral studies at Nagoya University, Japan, earning her PhD in Psychology in 2004. Her doctoral research examined violence against women in Myanmar and laid the foundation for her continuing work in gender and mental health research.

With more than three decades of experience in higher education, Professor Dr. Nilar Kyu has taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at both Mandalay University and the University of Yangon. She has published extensively in national and international academic journals and has supervised numerous graduate students in psychology, social work, and related disciplines. Her research interests include domestic violence, workplace sexual harassment, work–family conflict, mental health, and psychosocial well-being.

In her current leadership role, Professor Dr. Nilar Kyu oversees academic affairs and provides strategic leadership for institutional quality assurance at the University of Yangon. She plays a central role in curriculum development, outcomes-based education (OBE), programme review, academic policy formulation, institutional accreditation, and the enhancement of student learning outcomes. Her work focuses on strengthening teaching excellence, research quality, and institutional effectiveness in line with national and international quality standards.

Professor Dr. Nilar Kyu is an active board member of the Myanmar Psychological Association and previously served as a Visiting Research Fellow at Central European University. She has also participated in numerous international academic collaborations, quality assurance initiatives, and higher education capacity-building programmes. Through her leadership, research, and professional service, she remains committed to advancing academic excellence, promoting innovation in higher education, and contributing to the sustainable development of Myanmar’s university sector.
