Even in the time of COVID-19 pandemic, students from University of Yangon actively participated the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting (AFMAM) that aims to raise ASEAN awareness and promote greater ownership of the ASEAN Community amongst the young people in the region. AFMAM is a kind of enabling the youths to understand ASEAN diplomacy by involving them in authentic simulation exercises.
AFMAM 2020 involved the simulation of the ASEAN+1 engagement which address the thematic focus of “The Role of ASEAN Youths in Promoting Networking and Cooperation to Build a Clean and Green ASEAN Community through Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Protection of the Environment”.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, Myanmar team, named “Envirophiles” participated via online in this year AFMAM 2020. The team achieved 3 awards representing Myanmar: 1) ASEAN cultural night favorite delegation as the whole team 2) team member Ko Sai and his partner from Indonesia won best position paper award for ASEAN Political-Security Community Pillar as representative of Lao PDR in simulation and 3) Mya Phyu Sin won diplomacy award for ASEAN-AUSTRALIA Engagement as part of Cambodia in simulation.
